Happy Tails
Hi Friends at P.A.W.S,
Hello PAWS!
I adopted Bennett, then knows as Miller, from PAWS in mid July 2007. I had recently lost my Beagle/Lab and was looking for another Beagle. There was only one at the shelter, and I did not feel the connection. I took one more step and there was "Miller", plastered to the back of his cage, scared. I learned that he had come from the Terra Haute Humane Society and had been at PAWS for 2 months. According to one volunteer I spoke with, Miller had not shown well due to his fear. We took him outside, but he would not come near me. The very smart volunteer asked if I could return the next day, and I did. When I approached his cage, Miller came to the front and put his nose against the wire mesh. The volunteer suggested we take him into the kitchen, where I spoon fed him watered down canned dog food from a spoon. After a short while, Miller was allowing me to pet him. I knew he was the dog companion I was waiting for. We filled out the paperwork, and when I opened the door of the facility he headed directly for my car. Another note is that I wasn't planning on getting another dog, as my beloved Spirit had only died within the past 6 weeks. But the morning I first saw MIller, I heard in my head, "it's time for a new dog companion". I said out loud, "Spirit, I don't think so". The words remained and i'm so glad I listened to my dog Spirit's words. When we got to my house, I let Miller into the large, fenced in back yard. There are many trees, perennials, grasses and a pond. He was in Heaven. The name Miller didn't resonate with me and my neighbor came up with the name Bennett, which translates into "Little precious one". At 50 pounds, Bennett wasn't particularly little, but he was and remains precious. Four and a half years have passed, and Bennett remains, a special and loving dog. We still don't care for "hooded teenagers who ride anything that have wheels", but he has become more trusting of those who enter our home. Thank you PAWS for bringing Bennett to Tinley Park and giving him a home until I could find him. Bennett lives with a 3 legged cat, named Pirate, and has numerous dog friends that visit our yard and all dogs he sees on our daily walks are greeted by Bennett, with the usual BUTT sniff. Thank you for all you do. Sincerely, Judy Osborn

This is our Spooky (Silky at Paws). We adopted her
11/1/2000. We have since adopted a sibling dog from another rescue for
her. They are both doing great. She is in wonderful health and the best
dog anyone could
Hi Paws Staff, I just want to let you know that things in my new home are going well. I have lots of new toys and a big comfy bed to lay on. People have been coming to meet me and they bring me presents! My new family gives me lots of treats, I think just because I am so cute. I am very curious and my people just adore me. I give them lots of hugs. They love that I know tricks like sit, and lay down, they really like that when I go out or come in I sit by the door to have my paws dried off. I really think I am going to like it here. I am sending a picture of myself and will send more, my people seem to like taking my picture. They have started calling me "Chase" instead of "Achilles", I think it seems to fit me. Thank you for all the great care you gave me at the shelter. I hope my friends there all find homes soon. Love and hugs, Chase
He (Spike) is a great dog… Gets along with Nkara (our Scottish Terrier) and the kids really well. We walk both dogs every evening around the neighborhood and he loves it. We are currently working on some basic obedience. But other than that he is perfect. Thanks, Dustin Spaulding
Hi there, just wanted to send you an updated picture of Weasel. He's still not paying attention to the name Weasel or any other names for that matter. He does respond when I say, "Come here Baby" He's really a sweet kitty. He's coming along just fine. He's still a bit shy and hides when things get a little loud. All he needs is a little more time and he'll be running this joint...lol!! "This guy found his forever home". Thank you. Richard Plant and Ilona Welacha
Hi Cassie, I took this picture of Karma (Kiki) running in the backyard the other day. She is quickly becoming a part of our family. My son loves taking her for runs and she is very affectionate with all of us. We think she is beautiful and love having her in our home. Come by for a visit if you like! Eileen Lavin
I just wanted to take a moment
to let you know how Charlie is doing. Saturday was spent sleeping. As hard
as everyone works to make it comfortable the stressful environment at the
shelter exhausted him. Sunday he began to act more normal. He started to
eat better as well. We went for a good walk and played fetch in the yard. He
loves fetch by the way. We've learned that he knows sit, down and stay.
We're now working on our indoor manners and heel. Charlie is very smart and
learns quickly. With a little work he's going to be a wonderful member of
our family.
Hello, I just wanted to send some pictures of Arthur and let you all know that he is doing great. I was also asked to write something for the "Happy Tails" section on the web site.........We adopted Arthur about a week ago and we all absolutely love him! He is a perfect addition to our family! He lives for love, cuddles and treats. Truly a big baby. He cracks us up every night by arguing with his bed before laying down. He spins around, scratches it, and looks at it while quietly barking. HA! HA! Although we have only had him here a short time, we couldn't imagine life without him. He is the family dog we have been looking for and we are blessed to have found him at P.A.W.S. ~Kimberly & Anthony Roach and Family
Hello Everyone,
It was One Year Ago Today Blake thought I would make a Great Care Taker and Trainer so He Adopted Me . I first saw Blake on the Tinley Park PAWS website on Sunday evening and I immediately told My Wife We are going to look at a Pup tomorrow evening ,no problem and Monday evening We were on our way . When we arrived we were greeted by some very friendly folks that were eager to help ,I told them of a pup they had named Laddie and wondered if He was still available .Yes He is would You like to meet Him ..Absolutely and we were guided to His kennel ,He was just a puff ball of fur wanting to play and ready to come to His forever home ,I bent over to scoop him up and He Leaped into My arms and proceeded to wash My face .I told my wife that this dogs name is BLAKE .We were like to old friends that hadn't seen each other in years .I told my Wife to cut PAWS a check this pup is coming home with Us .We filled out all the proper paper work cut the check and we were on Our way. We had shown Blake all the boundaries of Our home life style just what was aloud and what is not SO He thought he would show Us what he was used too and what should be ...it's a dog thing I guess? After Two weeks of adjustment it was time to begin formal training Obedience 101. My friend and trainer Bridgett at K9Tailshaker in Frankfort We began an Eight week course of all the basics commands that turns an uncontrollable bundle of energy into a Lady or a Gentleman .This is a long slow process that needs to be worked on daily ,what is called baby steps .As Our training progressed Blake began to respond .I first noticed a change when He began to look me in the face for guidance with our sit ,stays ,walk with me, and come when called .It was like a light bulb went off in His mind my Dad likes when I listen to Him .In His little world I was Becoming more important then what he wanted or needed. As time and training went on this process began to take on more of a give and take of what both of Our needs were . He knew Me and I knew Him .We were beginning to work as a team. Bridgett noticed the connection and suggested on going training .I thought yeah right ? Blake and I began Therapy Dog training ,Learning all the Do's and Don'ts of what is expected in a Hospital and Rehab settings .Getting use to wheel chairs walkers Cains leaving food tolerating being petted and handled walking threw crowds or what ever the situation calls for .This is also a long slow moving process that takes time and baby steps .I discovered that Our training together was becoming more of a fun thing for Blake and I ,this was not work this was just something We enjoyed doing as a team . Blake has completed his Therapy Training and is now a licensed Therapy Dog and has brought many smiles to the Wonderful Folks he has meet. Blake and I decided that we were getting to comfortable and needed to get more physically active so We enrolled in an Agility Course at Stone City Kennel Club in New Lenox with Missy .Starting again with baby steps and small equipment from tunnels, hurdles ,teeter tauters, weave poles and having a blast with Our training We are almost ready for the full size equipment and advanced training . Blake and I have becoming team partners and most of All Best Friends ,watch for Us at the local Agility Trials. Thanks for Adopting Me .. joey and blake
Hi theres! My husband and I
adopted little Chevy in March of 2011 and thought this would be a good time
to update on her progress. She was the kitty that was found under the hood
of the car. After looking into various surgeries and speaking with the vet
who nursed her back to health we decided not to have any radical surgeries
since the vet said it would be more for our comfort than hers.

Hi PAWS. I just thought I'd let you know that Holly (who we are calling "Maisy") is doing great so far. She's a bundle of energy, but getting 2 long walks and fetch time in the yard, most days. She starts "school" on the 29th. Thanks!!
Michelle Hemminger
Tippy is doing great! He's got a lot of energy for an older dog and loves running around the yard with his sisters! Thanks so much!!

Hi John,
Kimber finally had those dew claws removed about 2 weeks ago. She did great, although she couldn't quite get the hang of the cone she had to wear. I ended up taking it off when we got home and she never bothered the stitches. She also has found her voice when she things there is some danger outside. Looks like she considers mi casa su casa finally. Everyone who sees her comments on what a beautiful dog she is and the muscle on her. She weighs 73 lbs at the last doc visit. Chuck and I must watch how we play with her in the backyard or dog park now since she can literally knock us off our feet. It has never happened, but we are careful. I told Chuck we should have changed her name Butkus or Urlacher since she is so strong and blocks with her shoulders! This past weekend we took Kimber up to our friend's lake house in Ludington, MI. They have a Cockapoo rescue, so the dogs had a great time with each other. Kimber loved the long walks and new scents in the state park that's close to the house. I've attached some pictures from the weekend. Wait until you see my buddy now!

I adopted Betty Boop AKA Bubbles and Lois Lane AKA Biscuit from Paws in November of 2010. They’ve been a pleasure to have in my life and I attribute their easy transition to the training and care given to them at Paws. We celebrated their 1st birthday on June 28th and as you can see Lois Lane likes sweets. Thank you PAWS for your care, these are the most sociable cats I have ever had!

Hello people at the shelter,
I thought I would drop you a note to let you know that all is well. The nice people that adopted me are very nice, I should have them trained in no time. I already have them at my beck and call, they gave me a very comfy bed for my naps and 2 brand new dishes for my food. I haven't even had to bark yet and all ready have them trained to let me outside when I look at the door. I have a nice big back yard with the biggest water bowl I have ever seen! The people call it a pool, silly people. I'll need to train them better. The little boys are learning how to play with me but they are very slow, maybe if they had 2 more feet they could catch me but I'm way to fast for them now. I picked out a chair where I can read the paper but the oldest person said it's his chair. Silly, I showed him that we can share, until I get my own chair I'll just sit on his lap. He reads really slow, I have to help turning the pages for him. I have taught them to give me plenty of treats for the simplest of tasks. they seem to be very simple and easily trained to do things so I think it shouldn't be long till I have them where I need them to be. It seems to be a nice place, dry and warm with plenty of food so I think I may stay for a while. I hope you can get along without me for a while. I will let you know how I progress on their training. Love, Maggie
P.S. It's been 2 days and my new people are wondering why I haven't said anything, silly people, if there isn't anything to bark about why bark? they would just tell me to stop anyway, why bother. The joy of new people to train, I think I may write a book for other dogs to train their new people. Have to get off the computer now, don't want to get caught, the man person thinks it's his computer, he will learn to share more now that I'm here. LOL I attached a couple of pics for you, will send more soon!!
Hey Guys, My name is Will, I adopted Tanner last week. He is very comfortable with his new home and is very calm, loves to play outside and i've just begun behavioral training with him, myself, and Vicki Harper from Bark Busters. He's in good hands and is well on his way to becoming a happy, trained and comfortable dog. Here are a couple of pictures of him at his new home!
thanks again PAWS, Will Kowach
We adopted Harley from PAWS in October of 2009. He was ten months old and he had been in a shelter in Aurora for four months prior to coming to PAWS. Other than that PAWS didn't really have any other background information on Harley. I fell in love with him the minute that we saw him for the first time. After taking Harley home we found that he must have been abused because he was afraid of everything. He wouldn't jump in and out of the car, go outside or come back in. After having him for a month he learned that he was not going to get abused anymore and he slowly grew comfortable doing those things. Now Harley is happy and healthy. Harley sleeps in bed with me and has lots of toys. Harley loves, Cesar dog food, bones, walks, and just laying on my lap when I am watching TV. He loves going for car rides because he loves to be anywhere we are. He is such a good boy and does tricks for treats. He is very trust worthy and allows me to brush his teeth, trim his nails and cut his fur. He doesn't like baths too much, but loves to swim. He also loves to be chased or have us chase him and he gets really excited when we do that with him. Also, he loves scavenger hunts. We take small bones and hide them around the house while Harley is outside and he comes in and sniffs around the house until he finds all of them. Harley is such a sweet boy and just wants to be around us. After a rough start to life he is doing great and is living like a king and deserves to be spoiled now. He is a big part of our family and we love him a lot. Harley is my baby and I thank PAWS for letting me adopt him!
Thank you so
much Nolly is a great dog!!! :) We love her so much, and she gets along
great with Sheba. I'm sending you some pictures,
Hello to everyone at PAWS,
We just wanted to take the time to update you about Brewster. We adopted Brewster from you this past June. Brewster is a wonderful addition to the family, and he is fitting in perfectly! At first, he was shy since he was learning about his new home; however, after two weeks, it was great to see his personality start shining through. He is a very lovable dog who spends most of his day playing with his toys and napping on his new dog bed. Brewster enjoys going on his daily walks, sunbathing in the backyard, and learning new tricks. It is a joy to see him extremely happy and excited everyday!

I adopted Tazer (Known there as Bailey2) a little over a year ago, and I cannot even begin to describe how amazing he is. When I first saw him at the shelter he was just a sleepy little puppy, but when I went in a few days later to bring him home he was so hyper and cheerful and cute! Over the year it was wonderful to watch him grow into a spunky dog! He used to be so scared of other dogs but now he just loves to go up to them and try to make them chase him so he can show off how quick and agile he is! My family and I have so many nicknames for him now! He never fails to make us laugh with his funny faces and the way he plays with his toys! He just loves to toss his bones and sticks up into the air! I seriously could not be any happier with him. I always say "How did I get so blessed with such a wonderful dog?" Thanks P.A.W.S, for bringing this little wonder into my life.
Hello all! In case you miss Bosco, I
wanted to email you some pictures of him. He is the most amazing dog ever
and he gets cuter each day.
We adopted June-Bug in February I
believe. the first time we brought her home, it was like she was always part
of our family! She fits right in Love the Kemp Family!
When I met Lexi she was very loving but also a very scared dog apprehensive about our family and our house. She quickly grew comfortable with us, and she is just so much fun! Lexi loves running around the house with her toys and my daughter (also named Lexi!) loves to chase her. She loves roaming in our backyard and chasing the neighbors dog up and down the fence. While she still scares easily sometimes, I've noticed that to be gradually decreasing. We love Lexi so much and are so lucky to have her as our pet!

We adopted Sweetie Pie back in April and just wanted you guys to know she is doing GREAT! She was shocked the first few days to find out that there were
nice people in the world (besides
the wonderful people at PAWS) who
would treat her with lots of love.
She sleeps with me every night, and
most of the time I have to move her
over because she kicks me out of
bed! I am more than happy to share
with her, though, because after all
she has been through she deserves
it. She is such a sweet, cuddly,
loving dog who fits in PERFECTLY
with the family and has adjusted
marvelously. Just want to thank you
guys for taking such good care of
her while she was waiting to be
adopted and to let you know that we
love her so very much!
